When is the Cape Public Library supposed to start its expansion project? I heard that it was starting this summer and then, I’ve heard otherwise? Thanks! Emily W.
Thanks for asking! We’ve been busy over the past 4 months finalizing the details of the plan. We hope to seek bids for the project by Sept. 1 and will break ground in October. Just this week we signed a lease for a temporary location and we will move there in October, as well. Moving off-site will save us about 6 months in construction time.
I just moved here to Cape three months ago and I’m glad that the library will be expanding its facilities. I visit the library frequently and have noticed an increase of people who use the library and all it has to offer. The staff is friendly and helpful and the computers come in handy for those who don’t have one of their own. I do hope the citizens of Cape will appreciate the new,”improved” library and teach their children all the joys and wonders of learning.
So with all this expansion, is the library acquiring more books as well?
I was wondering after the new library is finished are you going to expand the book collection and add more verity in the books that you have. If not is the library going to become one of those all computer and digital one that are in the big cities. What I am asking is if there is going to be books in this new library in this new library.
Library staff place book orders every month. Last year the library purchased over 5500 new books. This policy will continue once we are in the new building. Your question about more variety leads me to believe that there are topics in which you would like us to purchase titles. Please let library staff know what those topics are. We are always open to suggestions. How much we are able to expand our book collection will depend on how much book prices increase and what it will cost to maintain a larger facility. We will also continue to offer public access computers for those citizens who cannot afford access in their homes.
Thank you for your question.
